Pu'erh tea is unique in the way it is processed and for this reason, it is recommended to first rinse away any impurities that may be acquired during processing so that the true flavour of the leaves may be enjoyed. Rinsing the tea "awakens" the leaves providing a unique flavour and aroma not found in any other type of tea.
To rinse, we recommend pouring just enough boiling water to cover the leaves. Allow the leaves to soak for just a few seconds and then discard this water. Now you may steep the pu'erh for the desired length of time. Generally, we recommend starting with a shorter steeping time and then, because pu'erh is enjoyable through multiple steepings, increase steeping times for subsequent infusions by 15-20 seconds. You will find subtle differences in flavour with each cup.
Pu'erh is also known as a weight loss tea by nourishing the stomach and helping burn fat while reducing levels of bad cholesterol in your bloodstream. It will also help sooth an irritated stomach.
