GUAYUSA...Yerba Mate's close cousin

Posted

Guayusa has traditionally been used for its stimulating effects and for sharpening the mind. Slightly sweet and earthy in character, this close cousin to yerba mate produces a smooth, clean flavour and steeps a beautiful rich dark green hue. A perfect substitute for coffee drinkers.

Guayusa is an interesting small tree which grows in the Ecuadorian rainforest. The leaves are rich in naturally occurring caffeine which is useful in helping to maintain wakefulness. Guayusa also contains an ample supply of L-theanine, an amino acid that imparts a feeling of pleasant tranquility. The combination of the two creates a light stimulation, but is very smooth. Basically in guayusa you have a stimulant without the negative effects. We use guayusa in many blends such as our sangria blends and our Full Throttle Super Chai.
